Hey, one week has past, I'm in library now, waiting for the last class of the week. (this was when i started the post, bt finishing the rest now on a sunday). Things are not quite the same anymore. I dont have to mention why, you know it. But no worries, I'll cope, and it's just a matter of time. And I'm awaiting for your return! =)
Here's a review of what I had learned in classes this week:
BTH 2741 (Biochemistry)
My lecturer for this week is Ms Lau. As it's the first week, it's more or less a review of what we had learned earlier. Like exergonic is when the product has lower energy than its reactant, and vice versa for endergonic reactions. And she talked about bonds. See if I can make this interesting.
Covalent bonds are strong bonds, just like you and me, and they share electrons jst like how we share our similiarities! =) Then, there are the non-covalent bonds. Ionic bond, hydrogen bond, van der Waals and hydrophobic. I know you know what they are, so I wont elaborate further.
And then she talked about blood pH. Basically we maintain our blood pH through our respiratory system and metabolic system. Respiratory is by controlling CO2 levels whereas metabolic is by controlling the bicarbonate concentration. =)
SCI 2010 (Practice and Application of Science)
Dr Song BK is our lecturer. This subject doesn't make me feel there's any importance in it. Or maybe I just havent see the importance yet. He talked about what science is. Science is a way of thinking, finding things out to understand the natural world. He also mentioned that science has got to do with "why" and "how" rather than "wow" or "walau-eh". I find him so funny saying walau-eh. And he explained it to the international students what that meant. Also, he said we should be able to communicate science with others, otherwise it'll be like syok sendiri. Yea, he used the word "syok sendiri" and tried explaining it to the international students what it meant.

-Types of microorganisms are : fungi, protozoa, algae, bacteria, virus

-based on what you can see, eg size, shape, texture, elevation
b) Cellular Morphology
-based on structures under microscope

-Light Microscope: Increase resolution by increasing NA (numerical aperture)
-NA is angle of the cone of light that can enter the objective lens
- >angle, >resolution
-NA depends on: difference bet refractive index of specimen and its surrounding (>difference,>contrast)
-increase refractive index by staining or oil immersion
3 Types of Staining:
a)Gram stain
b) Acid fast staining (for 2 types of genus)
c) Special staining (for special structures like flagella, DNA etc)
Oh dear!! I'm now too lazy to write more about physio. Maybe you want to write about it? It's still about some things we had learned before. Communication between cells and homeostasis. I think for the earlier 3 subjects, I pretty much went through the lectures for the week. So is there anything you want to add? haha.
